This module is intended for IAS Cambridge Year 12 Students, but could be adapted for younger (or older) students as needed. It is all about reflective writing and considering where one has done well in a written text and where one can make improvements. All lessons encourage writing a specific text that appears on the scheme of work for Cambridge IAS - these are common text types. Each lesson also includes a section of self-assessment where students must consider what they have written and how they would improve it moving forward. Lesson pack of six lessons discussing the correct way to write and analyse articles. While these lessons are intended for IAS Year 12 students in the ME, it could easily be adapated for the needs of Year 7 ~ 9 students in the UK or grades to 8 in the USA/Canada. Lesson 1 ~ Introduction to articles regarding layout and structure. Lessons 2 ~ 4 ~ related to the written skills needed to create an article and the emotions that a reader would feel when reading it. Focus should be on authorial intent and reader response. Lessons 5 & 6 ~ Related to analysing articles and formulating a written article using what students have learnt for that week. They should also be encouraged to do WWWs and EBIs as part of peer marking.

Persuasive Writing Module intended for use by Year 12 IAS students. However, this could easily be adapted for years 7-9 in the UK or grades 5-8 in the USA and Canada. The persuasive writing modules aims to teach students the correct way to debate and write persuasively and professionally. Lesson 1 - Lesson one serves as an introduction to persuasive writing introducing the skills needed and the techniques used such as DAFORREST . Lesson 2 - Lesson two discusses writing professional essays from a persuasive standpoint. Teachers should also live model essay writing on the board using what is given and what students learnt in lesson one. Lesson 3 - Lesson three refers to speech writing and goes through conventions of speech as well as how to write introductions, paragraphs and conclusions of speeches. Lesson 4 - Lesson four uses a written article to get students to answer an exam question. Lessons 5 & 6 are used to prepare for a debate. Lesson five teaches students how to create and use cue cards and how to debate professionally. Lesson six is a debate session. Students should peer mark each other as they go through identifying where team members have used DAFORREST techniques.

This pack was originally created with the Cambridge IAS exam in mind, however, it is easily adapted for any students aged 11-16 studying narrative/creative writing. It could, perhaps, even be edited to be used for students in primary school or higher level. Lesson 1 - This lesson is all about perspectives and teaches students how to consider the perspective of their writing and where ideas can come from. It also discusses 1st, 2nd and 3rd person as well as omnipotent and omniscient narrators. Lesson 2 - Covers genre and conventions. Students will be guided on what conventions are and given examples in literary and cinematic texts. Example: ‘The Final Girl’ in the horror genre. Lesson 3 - Deals with enigma and creating tension and suspense in stories. Students sometimes have a problem with creating and maintaining mystery in creative writing and this lesson explains how to do so. Lesson 4 - Covers character development and interactions. Highlights how to develop characters and make things interesting for an audience. Lessons 5 & 6 - After doing the hard work, students are given a lesson to create a story in a creative and fun manner by using the game ‘consequences.’ All instructions are on the slides and students should follow them. Teachers can guide further if they so desire, using factors such as genre and conventions for high levels classes.

A series of 21 lessons that cover the basics of the IELTS examination, from speaking, listening, reading and writing. It works better if you have the official IELTS book to go along with the lessons as some of the exercises are directly related, however, the book cannot be shared for obvious copyright reasons.

A series of lessons designed to highlight the use of language in journalism. This is a particularly useful resource for helping students to understand how writers use specific language for their audiences. It also benefits the students in writing their own texts as they come to understand the purpose, audience and form. The series of lessons are based around investigative journalism and give students the opportunity to discuss their own ideas and do research based on their ideas.

This lesson is an introduction to poetry for KS3 students, but can also be used to KS4, Literacy, iGCSE, GCSE, MYP, PYP or English Language Learning. Printing slide 5 on A3 paper is the most effective as students have something physical in front of them to write on, though sharing through Classroom, Drive or Teams is also effective.

This scheme of work is designed to help students understand and create NON-FICTION texts. The scheme of work is designed around travel brochures with the end goal of an assessment in which students create a travel brochure. The lessons include DAFORREST and SOAPSME techniques as well as a breakdown of how to create a front cover and the middle pages of a brochure. The scheme of work did originally include a back cover lesson, but it was far too simple and consisted solely of drawing, which did not add to the linguistic learning. This was replaced with an interactive lesson in which there are sheets about countries like Thailand, Spain, Italy etc printed off and students have to go around the room and fill in their worksheets about each country. This stimulates them to think about the countries that they want to visit and helps with the creation of a non-fiction text!

Designed to originally be part of an Enrichment Programme at a school, these 3 lessons contain basic Spanish elements like the difference between ser/estar and some general animal vocabulary. Intended age range is EAL Secondary, but with high level KS2 or high level 4th-5th grade would also be fine. Lesson 3 includes a print out of a crossword and picture activity that can be printed double sided.

This lesson is about character development, and was originally designed for the IGCSE First Language Coursework Narrative section. However, it could definitely be use for any age group with a capable level of English from Year 7 - Year 11. This would be extremely beneficial for any students doing any for of narrative writing or GCSE.

A set of of 4 Literacy Based Poems and stories intended to be used during Tutor time / D.E.A.R time. There is one poem to kick start the discussion of inference and then a story begins about a cat named Silver Mane. These stories are intended to be episodic. The first THREE episodes are uploaded here along with questions to ask students after reading. This is designed to improve literacy among High School students, but could easily be used with KS2 (UK) and MYP (USA/CANADA).

This is a lesson on types of narration. Aimed at First Language Cambridge Students, this could easily be used for any students with good English to teach narrative types. The final slide is a worksheet to be printed and cut from which students create their own character.

A lesson and examplar to show students how to write epistolary writing. This was first used for a GCSE class, but has been adapted to be used for KS3/EAL learners too. If you wanted to go further into the interactivity, you could put the districts into a hat or wheel and assign a random district to students (though this requires some knowledge of The Hunger Games).

This lesson is designed to teach iGCSE First Language Cambridge students about Narrative Structures, but can also be used for MYP, KS3, KS4 students as well. The lesson is originally designed to give students direction in their coursework, but would be beneficial to teach children about story structures in general lessons too.
