Cinema Seat Booking Spreadsheet System

I developed this system for my Year 7 pupils to work through as part of a larger movie premiere unit of work. In collaboration with the English department, pupils worked in teams to launch a new production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The spreadsheet system was developed in ICT lessons and was branded with their production company logos. I designed this activity in Google Sheets, although the instructions could easily be modified to be run in Excel. The PowerPoint that accompanies this activity would need to be slightly modified, as indicated. Essentially, the system uses conditional formatting to count the number of adult and child seats, multiplies these with the ticket price to get the total cost for the adults and for the children. Allows the user to select the movie (which then automatically displays the screen), the date and time of the showing. All of this information is transferred to a ticket ready for printing.

Digital Forensics Investigation

I created this activity as there was nothing available at KS3 level. I wanted to run a digital forensics activity during our enrichment week, the penultimate week of the summer term, and this is the result. I worked with Years 7 and 8 to investigate a suspect and a crime. The pack includes a teacher guide and many supporting documents. In order to deliver the activity, teachers will need to make some changes to the information presented to pupils, e.g. edit the information to reflect the name of your chosen suspect, create a free email account in their name and set up a password that can be discovered using the wordsearch and pack information. There are some files included that need to be saved to flash drives and the recycle bin on a batch of laptops. So there is a bit of setup work, but I was delighted with how the activity went. It was pitched at exactly the right level for our able independent prep school pupils. The activity took two 2 hour sessions to complete, and can be done over a half term. I have also included a Google quiz about general computer science information that could be added on as an extension task. The form is self marking.

This has resource has been written for use by Year 7/8 as part of a data handling unit of work. Pupils complete this spreadsheet, adding their own branding and formatting, before going on to develop their own unique system for a bespoke audience. The pack includes a teacher guidance sheet, exemplar spreadsheet with all formulae and developer objects, plus a video showing how to create the radio buttons and IF statement.
