This is a short PowerPoint presentation designed for students who hate poetry but like rap. It gives the history and evolution of rap, from oral formula poets in Ancient Greece and West African griots to how rap became mainstream. It touches on different genres including NWA (without any of the rude words and minimal violence!) and compares Shakespeare and poetry in general.

I use several games I’ve created to break up the monotony of a lesson. This always goes down well. Students are shown the close up of an animal’s eye and they have to identify the animal it belongs to.
