Here is a nice starter that is highly adaptable and can stimulate some nice rich questioning. I have used it as a worksheet that I hand out upon entry as attached and more lately simply displayed on an IWB. Please reply with any ideas for how the format can be applied to other areas of maths.

Engaging starter appropriate for a range of groups revising a key topic of square numbers. Once pupils have coloured the square numbers in it spells WELL DONE backward, which makes it difficult to guess.

Task to practise using SUVAT equations with three levels of difficulty where pupils have to fill in the blanks using the other values.
