(0)
This is a clear and ready to use series of 10 English lessons to teach poetry for 2 weeks in KS2 Literacy. You have a ready to use teaching powerpoint slides for each lesson, ready to use worksheets and ready to print word mats to stretch the children’s vocabulary and support EAL learners. These can all be stuck into their literacy books and/or displayed on an interactive whiteboard. The powerpoint includes youtube links, handwritten examples (cursive writing used), moments for the children to write on their whiteboards and engaging questions to get the children thinking and joining in. Most importantly this unit has been taught in classrooms and is engaging and exciting. The children want to know what the next type of poem will be. They feel like poets and they love writing their own poems with confidence after spending the previous lesson reading and analysing good model example texts. Can be used alongside Science teaching of the water cycle. Made for a Year 3 or Year 4 class (LKS2) but can be used in a Year 5 or Year 6 class (UKS2).

Phonics Sound Mats – Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 | Grouped Sounds for Writing (2 per A4)

I created these phonics sound mats because I found it difficult to find resources suitable for children who are beginning to write. Many sound mats include so many sounds that they can feel overwhelming for early writers. These mats group the main sounds and spelling patterns together, making it easier for children to find the sounds they need when writing. Features: Sounds and spelling patterns grouped together for easy reference. Designed to help children apply their phonics knowledge when writing. Two sound mats per A4 page to reduce printing costs. Suitable for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, depending on children’s phonics knowledge. Useful for writing tables, independent writing and additional phonics support. A simple and practical resource to help children become more confident using phonics in their writing.

Krindlekrax Adjectives Word Mat – Character and Setting Description

(0)
Help children bring their creative writing to life with this colourful adjectives word mat for describing settings and characters in the book Krindlekrax. This classroom writing resource encourages pupils to expand their vocabulary, choose more precise descriptive words and create vivid images for their readers. Featuring four word banks—Setting, Elvis, Ruskin and Krindlekrax—this resource provides a range of adjectives to support character descriptions and setting descriptions, particularly when exploring Krindlekrax. How can this resource be used? Creative writing: Encourage pupils to select adjectives to develop their descriptions. Setting descriptions: Use words such as gloomy, eerie, deserted and crumbling to create atmosphere for the sewer and Lizard street. Character descriptions: Explore how adjectives such as timid, arrogant, courageous and bloodthirsty help communicate personality. Shared writing: Model how to improve a simple sentence by choosing more effective vocabulary. Independent writing: Display or print the word mat so pupils can refer to it while writing. Editing and improving: Challenge children to replace vague, simple adjectives with more precise, advanced vocabulary.
