Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Business- Topic 1.2 Spotting a business opportunity- Market Segmentation
This resource covers 2 x 1 hour lessons and has a power point presentation and a student worksheet/ power point they can fill in.
The ‘Segmenting the Market’ power point goes through the lesson covering:
Lesson 1:
Starter activity - introducing market segmentation by getting students to look at different magazines and assessing their possible target market
• Introduces the topic area using different business examples
• Students are given products (handouts are in the powerpoint) of different items and they then identify the possible customers
• Plenary- identifying different market segments
Lesson 2:
Starter activity- students look at data to identify possible market segments
Introduce the benefits and limitations of segmentation
Case study on a local hairdresser v worlds most expensive hairdresser- students complete the ’ segmenting the market tasks’ this can be done on the computers or adapted for class tables.
I give out handouts which students fill in rather than books which is attached to the power point but it can easily be adapted.
