Personal Reward System Use this simple, visual reward system to motivate pupils, reinforce positive behaviours and provide achievable goals throughout the school day or week. How to use it Step 1 – Introduce the system Explain how the reward board works and how stickers/stamps can be earned. Step 2 – Choose the rewards Invite the pupil to select three rewards from the Reward Choice Board. Step 3 – Rank the rewards Ask the pupil to place their choices in order of Good, Better and Best, linking one reward to each level. Step 4 – Agree the targets Decide how many stickers/stamps are needed to reach Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Targets should be realistic, achievable and appropriate for the individual pupil. Step 5 – Start earning! Use the Reward Board throughout the lesson, day or week, awarding a sticker or stamp when the pupil demonstrates the agreed positive behaviours. Why this reward system works Child-centred: pupils have a voice in choosing rewards that genuinely motivate them. Flexible: it can be adapted to different ages, needs, behaviours and classroom environments. Practical: reward choices are designed to be manageable and minimally disruptive, including in classrooms with only one adult. Visual: pupils can clearly see their progress towards an achievable goal. Positive and cumulative: stickers/stamps that have been earned are never removed as a consequence of negative behaviour. Progress is built through recognising success rather than taking previous success away. Graduated: three reward levels provide smaller, achievable milestones while encouraging pupils to continue working towards their most valued reward. Important: Be clear about what the pupil is earning stickers/stamps for. Keep the target positive and specific wherever possible — for example, “Starting my work when asked”, “Using kind words” or “Following an adult instruction."

How far can you go? A great resource to have on display to refer to when children ask, “How many sentences do I have to write? Is this enough work?” Promote a growth mindset and help children set high expectations for themselves
