This resource can either be delivered by the Head of Year in assemblies or by tutors in tutor bases. If delivering in tutor bases there is an accompanying worksheet that students can complete.
Suitable for years 7-11
The presentation has notes added to help the person delivering the assembly.
Assembly focusing on attendance including; government stance on attendance, gcse performance vs. attendance, why it is important, negative effects of truancy, how the school will help you, what the school expect from you, the future, news article about screen time hitting GCSE grades and finally how it is important to be present but to also aim high - with a link to the film In Pursuit of Happiness including a clip of the film.
Assembly based on what makes people happy - with some top tips, we had some great moments of students acting out (the number1, number 2 etc) which can either be acted out in assembly or photographs taken before hand & added to the slides (which the rest of the year group love to see) and it’s finished with a you tube clip embedded into the presentation to make students smile.
Assembly based on attendance (& links to the workplace), consequences of poor attendance, new beginnings, school charter, encouragement to take risks etc, learning from mistakes (including a clip to a you tube clip), good morning routines & message for the year.
Assembly based on target setting, talking about: the top ten tips for trip of your lifetime & achieving your goals or targets. Very visual assembly with a quote from Educating Essex.

This has been delivered to years 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 in my school
Assembly that gives real life businesses and their approach to being on time, wearing the right uniform, sick days, completing the work to the best of your ability, losing items and transferable skills
This was delivered to all year groups in my secondary school - years 7 to 11
Assembly that looks at what discrimination is with events over history (Sydney terror attack, Stephen Lawrence murder and football fans from Chelsea Football Club).
There isn’t a huge amount to actually deliver, as there are 2 videos embedded. One is on the This Morning slide, which lasts 6 mins and the other is on the slide with the picture of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, which lasts 2.5mins.
Both are very hard hitting, but they get the message across much better than I could.
Assembly based on the cost of christmas, why people spend so much, what is important, a breakdown of the cost of christmas, the extremes of the rich and poor. The assembly includes 3 video links.
This assembly focuses on what support is available in school - ranging from tutors, Head of Year through to support staff
there are then slides on the support available outside of school; online counseling service, childline, samaritans. There are also 3 you tube clips embedded into the slides.
I have also put together a PP presentation that has been printed and displayed in tutor rooms with contact details for childline, samaritans and Kooth (all of which are referred to in the assembly) this will serve as a constant reminder for students and will mean they can easily access the information without having to search online.
