The Island (scheme of work to accompany Sue Phillips' The Island resource)

(0)
Sequence of around 10 lessons- including a baseline assessment and an end of topic assessment. This scheme of work includes a presentation to accompany every lesson, resources and assessments. This is a scheme of work I made to use after spending one lesson on The Island by Sue Phillips- I cannot include The Island script in this resource due to copyright so you would need to contact Sue Phillips on theatreoflearning@hotmail.co.uk However, most of the lessons could be used either as stand alone lessons or as a sequence of lessons without spending one lesson on The Island script- for example, lesson topics include: festivals; rites of passage; religious objects; pilgrimage. This sequence of lessons is suitable for KS3- more suited for Year 7 and Year 8 but can also be used with lower ability Year 9. This could also be adapted to suit Year 6.

A 30 minute baseline assessment to conduct with Year 7 (could be used with Year 6 or Year 8 too) to judge their basic understanding of the world religions, their ability to express their own well-reasoned judgements, and write developed paragraphs using the PEE structure for example (point, evidence, explanation).

Homework research project about the world religions

This resource includes the instructions lesson about the homework project, the homework project sheets to complete, and a final lesson for pupils to teach each other what they have found out. There are 5 homework tasks (including a self-reflection task) and 2 lessons. This homework tasked is aimed at Year 7 and takes the form of Alien Quest however this would work well with Year 6 too. I also give this task to Year 8 and I change it from Alien Quest to Become the Expert.

Progress tracker layout sheet- can be adapted to suit any year group or scheme of work. Having this particular layout works well for target reflection, to show progress and having this many assessments per half term.

5 lessons covering the topic of Is there a God?- includes interpretation of artwork, key terminology, arguments for and against the existence of God, a spelling test and 2 written assessments. I use this with Year 7 but it could be used with KS3 in general or even Year 6 if they are high ability.
