This is a summary of the plots, themes and characters of Odyssey Book 9, suitable for GCSE students. The photo is my own - of a display cabinet in Room 69 of the British Museum.

This presents the main characters and themes of Odyssey 10.

This is a model answer for a 15-mark question assessing Mycenae’s wealth - whether frescoes or other artefacts/the site itself better displays its wealth. I used this before returning students’ own work on the same question to them. We used two colours - green for specific source detail (AO1) and red for analysis/evaluation (AO2) to discuss its merits. I’m not an OCR examiner at present but I have been a Classics teacher for 15 years and Head of Classics for 6.

A 15-mark question on a tricky chapter of Cicero 'Pro Milone', together with a sample answer for discussion. Used with Year 12 Latinists studying their first year of OCR A Level Latin. Set as a test for which 25 minutes was given.

A workbook with questions and a few comments from secondary literature to help students work through Book 6. Can be used as homework or classwork. Questions could be divided between students depending on resources and ability.

Questions with accompanying notes and quotations from secondary authors to help students engage with Aeneid Book 4.

I use this for our Year 9 trip to the British Museum. It is inspired by Richard Woff who gave us some great INSET on 'worksheet-less' activities to engage students. This is a sheet - but it can be downloaded onto ipads and it's just giving the students four activities to do: film a shopping-channel advert, create a Kahoot (or similar) quiz, write a murder-mystery story and create the 'treasured possessions' of King Cogidubnus. It can be adapted for any museum trip!

This is suitable for Latin students who use CLC 4/5 for GCSE (the textbook includes the future perfect which is not on OCR’s prescription) and as a useful reminder/aid for students beginning A Level.

I set this as a homework assignment for students who are in their third year of studying Latin (approx CLC Stage 21) to revise the perfect passive participle, as well as a few other bits and pieces.

I use this to revise participles, particularly perfect active participles, with our Year 9 Latin students. It's good for bringing myth and grammar together, and also practises the genitive of description.

A practice verse unseen from Euripides’ Hippolytus with some glossed vocabulary suitable for A Level Greek students.

A set of ten questions, mixing translation, comprehension and literary criticism (of the 15-marker type) for the OCR A Level Classical Greek Aristophanes’ Acharnians set text. Useful for in-class tests, homework assignments and revision.

This is the advice sheet I give to Year 11 students in Latin and Greek to help them revise their set texts. It breaks down the different stages and gives them some strategies to help them.
