Stomp: Class Junk Orchestra

(1)
These 3 powerpoints kick start a scheme of work that gets students building their own instruments out of junk materials. This can be used for all year groups, I did it with my year 9's. I sent the students homework to build the instruments at home as it was a short half term, but you could build the making of the instruments into the lessons too. Attached are some videos of junk/food instruments to use in the first lesson to get students thinking about their designs. These ppt how guide students towards composing a piece of music in group on their own instruments.

This Powerpoint is a lesson with lots of differentiated activities. Students can choose their own success criteria for the lesson, based upon their own challenge. You can then print each of the last few powerpoint to put on different stations around the room. These are colour coded according to the level or challenge too, so students or you can choose what station each students begin on. This lesson worked really well for me, but I also used the Activate 3 books as extra support within the lesson. Each challenge acted as a carousel and the students really enaged in it, especially as I gave them a time limit at each station.
