Unit focuses on both argumentative and persuasive writing techniques. Student will debate argue and persuade on several topics. They will study in detail Dr Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream speech.’ Once completed they complete a mini ask on writing a persuasive letter to a store asking for a refund of a product they are unhappy about. Final section students will debate the purpose of the school uniform. Come up with reasons for and against. Once complete they will choose which side of the the topic they agree with and write a persuasive talk on the topic. This can be then be delivered in front of the class or easily converted to a persuasive essay. Learning objectives and success criteria is included. Unit should take up twelve 60 minute lessons. Teacher instruction and guide are provided on each slide. Students are also provided with a booklet to help guide their learning.
