This genre of texts is one of the oldest classes of Buddhist literature. Metta Sutra has the theme of how to develop a special form of kindness and goodwill, called ‘Metta’. Metta means loving kindness and it is one of the “Four Immeasurables” or the Four Divine States of Buddhism. They will reflect on these values and how they can apply them in their own lives. Students will reflect on acts of kindness from different cultures and regions of the world, and create a visual “Kindness Map” that highlights various ways kindness is shown globally. discussion task Read the quotes and answer the following questions– providing explanations, justification and examples where possible. Choose 4-5 countries. For each, research (online or use your own knowledge) a specific act of kindness or cultural tradition that emphasises compassion. Draw a world map and mark the 4-5 countries you have chosen to research. Using the link above, choose three proverbs. Read them and Summarise them in your own words. How might they help someone in times of need? What qualities do they encourage?
