The unit examines major figures and movements of 15th–17th century exploration including Cortés and the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, Zheng He and Chinese maritime expeditions, and Columbus’s voyages and their global aftermath. Students analyze motives for exploration (economic, religious, political), technological advancements, and the consequences for indigenous populations, trade, and empires.
