AQA GCSE Biology – Ecology Complete Revision Workbook
AQA GCSE Biology – Ecology Complete Revision Workbook
A complete revision workbook covering the Ecology topic for AQA GCSE Biology.
I made this resource to bring the whole Ecology topic together in one place, with the revision content and practice built into the same workbook. Ecology can involve quite a lot of data handling, practical skills and longer application questions, so I’ve tried to give students plenty of opportunities to practise these rather than just reading through notes.
The workbook covers:
Communities, populations and ecosystems
Interdependence and competition
Biotic and abiotic factors
Adaptations
Food chains and trophic levels
Biomass and the transfer of biomass
Quadrat sampling
Transects and distribution
Estimating population size
Required Practical 9 – field investigations
Decomposition
Factors affecting decay
Required Practical 10 – decay
The carbon cycle
The water cycle
Biodiversity
Human impacts on ecosystems
Pollution
Land use
Deforestation
Destruction of peat bogs
Global warming and climate change
Maintaining biodiversity
Food security
Sustainable fisheries
Farming techniques
Biotechnology and food production
Ecology calculations and data skills
Mixed retrieval practice
Exam-style questions and full answers
Throughout the workbook, I’ve included a mixture of clear revision notes, diagrams, worked examples, quick-check questions, calculations, practical questions, common mistakes, exam tips and application tasks.
There is plenty of practice with the areas students can often find more difficult, particularly sampling calculations, interpreting ecological data, biomass calculations and explaining the effects of environmental changes.
Biology-only and Higher Tier content is clearly labelled where needed so students can easily see which sections are relevant to them.
Towards the end of the workbook there is mixed retrieval practice covering the whole topic, followed by original exam-style questions with full answers and model responses. A final checklist is also included to help students identify anything they still need to go back over.
The workbook can be completed from start to finish or used to focus on individual areas, making it suitable for independent revision, homework, tutoring, intervention sessions or classroom revision.
I’ve tried to keep the explanations straightforward and easy to follow while still including the detail students need to understand the topic properly and apply their knowledge in GCSE exam questions.
65 pages with answers included throughout.
This resource is part of my matching AQA GCSE Biology revision workbook series, alongside Cell Biology, Organisation, Infection and Response, Bioenergetics, Homeostasis and Response, and Inheritance, Variation and Evolution.
