A resource to be used as part of a phonics lesson for consolidation, within the provision or to send home for homework. Following the rules of the ‘Guess Who?’ game children are to guess the alien using their knowledge of GPCs that will be found in the phonics screening check e.g. ‘does your alien name have a split digraph?’ Pack includes two game boards for children to cross off the aliens as they move through the game and a larger set of alien cards for each player to choose from when deciding their alien. I will laminate my set and add to the provision alongside our school’s phonics programme grapheme mat for support. Children will use whiteboard pens to cross off their aliens. Covering aliens using objects around the classroom, such as counters, would work also!

A phonics activity used in the provision for year 1 children as part of a ‘rainbow challenge’. Phase 2- pink, Phase 3- blue, Phase 4- green, Phase 5- pink. Children are to use cars to drive to each picture and write on their notepaper.

Children are to use their knowledge of addition to 20 to match the rocket to the correct planet. Comes with a table sign. This was designed to be set up on a table or tuff tray in the provision with a range of concrete manipulatives and numberlines to support the children in consolidating their knowledge of numbers to 20. Fitted in with our space theme.

Activities created for a space themed topic in year 1 for a Space themed topic. Pack includes a range of pictures to be put in the ‘creative’ area with coloured examples. Also within the pack is a ‘what has the astronaut packed in his suitcase’ read and draw acitivity. Phase 2- pink, Phase 3- blue and Phase 5 phonics yellow. Writing challenge following the children pactising writing questions includes a word bank and images, children are to write questions to ask the astronauts from the first moon landing, activity was set up with whiteboards and pens but any writing tools could be used e.g. light up boards or lined paper to be put on the working wall. A maths activity was set up also with pipe cleaners and beads for children to practise representing numbers to 20 with an additional fine motor focus. Also set up was a space themed small world area. All activities come with space themed signs to explain what is required. Coloured planets are used to link to ‘rainbow challenges’ which can be used if needed.

Activity created to support year 1 pupils to recognise capital letters. Children are to put a peg on the correct lower case letters, also helps to support fine motor needs.

A resource created for year 1 or reception children. Can be used as a main activity of an activity within the continuous provision. Children are to work out the answer to the addition and subtraction calculations and match the correct pancake.

An activity which could be used within continuous provision or as a stimulus for using adjective to describe a setting. Comes with word mats, images and writing prompt. A continuous provision writing activity aimed at children who are working in year 1 on the phase 5 phonics sounds.

This Year 1 writing unit consists of 16 lessons fully linked to a core text and designed to support progression in early writing skills. Each lesson follows a consistent structure where prior learning is revisited, the learning sequence is introduced, and key vocabulary from the book is explicitly taught to support understanding and application in writing. Five weeks worth of reading lessons based on the book ‘The Penguin Who Wanted to Find Out’ by Jill Tomlinson. Each week has five separate lessons, Monday to Friday, and includes differentiated activities (purple- sen/LA, orange- MA and green- expected children) as well as a typed out copy of the text to give to the children. Each week vocabulary from the text is picked up and discussed and the same text is explored all week to ensure that children have a deeper understanding. Each lesson has the opportunity to model, echo and choral read part of the text as well as ideas for book talk. The lessons look at different reading skills- retrieval, vocabulary, inference, summarising, predicting and sequencing. The lessons were created for a year 3 cohort but could be used with higher able year 2’s. You NEED activinspire to access the lesson slides.

A series of 5 lessons and resources around the story The Tiger Who Came to Tea for use in an English or reading session. This book is part of the Pie Corbett reading spine for Year 1. There are opportunities to explore reading skills; prediction, retrieval, inference and sequencing as well as lots of opportunities for modelling reading and book talk discussions. There are some examples of how activities can be differentiated. All words from the book are features in the slides so you don’t need to have the book to complete the lessons.
