This is a full and comprehensive set of Colourful Semantics cards for the book ‘Whatever Next’. They are appropriatetly colour coded to enable children to structure sentences to represent the story.
This resource consists of two dual-coded vocabulary mats and a set of dual-coded vocab cards for use to support writing and oracy related to the story of Whatever Next. There is a simpler and more complex version of the word mats to support children at different levels and the vocabulary cards can be used in provision or for displays.
A 6-week block of planning using the Talk for Writing approach aimed at Reception around the text, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Written for Summer 1, but the objectives can be modified. There are four fiction-based weeks and two non-fiction based weeks following the Talk for Writing structure:

Week 2 - Imitate and Innovate (fiction)
Week 3 - Innovate (fiction)
Week 4 - Invent (fiction)
Week 5 - Imitate (non-fiction)
Week 6 - Innovate (non-fiction)
This also includes a Model Text for use with the unit of work.
The main objectives for this unit are:
Write recognisable letters, most of which are formed correctly. ELG
Spell words by identifying sounds in them and representing the sounds with a
letter or letters. ELG
Write simple phrases and sentences that can be read by others. ELG
Use and understand recently introduced vocabulary during discussions about
stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems and during role-play. ELG
Read aloud simple sentences and books that are consistent with their phonic
knowledge, including some common exception words. ELG
Re-read what they have written to check that it makes sense.
