Year 1 English Writing – Autumn 1 - Spring 2 Pla (Drawing Club & Curious Quests Inspired) 17 WEEKS OF WORK This Year 1 English writing 2 term plan offers a clear, engaging structure for teaching writing across the whole academic year. It is fully aligned with the Year 1 National Curriculum for writing and is designed to support creativity, confidence, and progress. Autumn 1 is inspired by Drawing Club and Curious Quests from Autumn 2, with a strong focus on consolidation, talk, and imagination. Skills are then built on carefully throughout the year. What’s included: A full 2 termly overview for Year 1 English writing Weekly plans (Monday–Friday) covering all Year 1 writing objectives One book per week, with: -Weeks alternating between story books and traditional tales -Some books repeated to support recount writing Clear links to phonics in every week Modelled drawing and modelled writing included throughout Child-friendly prompts and scaffolds to support independent writing A weekly vocabulary focus to build language and sentence confidence **Assessment: ** Space built in each half term for a cold task / writing assessment These are intentionally left open so they can be planned to suit your own children and setting **Important to note: ** This planning is intended as a supportive framework, not a script to follow word for word.
