Aztec Human Sacrifice
This resource offers a 3-page A4 worksheet designed to engage students in understanding and analysing the practice of Aztec human sacrifice through reading, comprehension, and critical thinking.
This task was designed for a stage 4 (AUS) history class studying the topic ‘The Spanish Conquest of the Americas’ within the NSW history curriculum and syllabus.
What’s Included:
Task 1: A one-page reading on Aztec Human Sacrifice, accompanied by a one-page comprehension activity to ensure students understand key concepts and details.
Task 2: An investigation of a primary source description of an Aztec sacrifice ritual. Students will analyse this source alongside archaeological evidence to evaluate whether the physical findings support the written account.
This resource provides a balance of factual learning and analytical skills, helping students form informed judgments about the historical accuracy of primary sources.
This task is always a highlight for most of my students with the topic fostering a lot of engagement. This task can be completed with 1-2 lessons.
