AFOREST lesson persuasive devices

Suitable for KS3 and KS4. The lesson takes students through AFOREST and they should use the complementary sheet to add their own examples. The examples are based on stealing although could be adapted as you see fit. I found it useful to narrate additional examples to help some of my classes (particularly y7). Students can then play cops and robbers. Essentially, once they have all of own their examples, invite them to walk around the room and steal from their classmates, populating the final column of the sheet. Students are then to return to seats to look at model answer and either in pairs or as a class come up with a success criteria for a speech. Students can then use their examples from AFOREST to draft a speech of their own, using the success criteria to stay on track!

A-Level English Literature: Exploring Othello and Shakespeare’s Legacy Overview: This engaging and thought-provoking homework task encourages students to deepen their understanding of Othello through key literary concepts, vocabulary development, and critical discussions on Shakespeare’s relevance today. Tasks: Retrieval Task: Students will explore the symbolism of Janus and how it relates to Iago, selecting and analyzing a key quotation from the text. Vocabulary Task: Learners will define and apply key terms (malcontent, xenophobic, soliloquy, hubris, stereotype, reconcile) in the context of Othello. Podcast Reflection: After listening to BBC Radio 4’s In Our Time: Shakespeare’s Work, students will reflect on two critical questions: Is the study of Shakespeare elitist? How can Shakespeare’s works remain relevant in the modern era? Learning Outcomes: Develop analytical skills by exploring themes and character motivations. Expand literary vocabulary with precise and contextualized usage. Engage with wider cultural and academic discussions about Shakespeare’s legacy.
