After seeing the film and creating such a buzz at school, I decided to write a script for them to use. I did this with my KS2, but it could always be adapted for other children at KS1 and KS3 etc. Parents were amazed with all the added smoke and stage decorations. A brilliant mental arithmetic competition to get the whole school involved. The 99 Club is a mental-oral used at my primary school, which aims to raise standards in maths through encouraging pupils to improve their mental calculations when attempting quick-fire multiplication and division problems. The idea is that with repeated practice, the scheme should result in increased speed and confidence when tackling mental maths problems without relying on written workings and methods. All pupils will begin at the 11 Club and work their way up, having one opportunity per week during the start of one of their maths lessons to answer all calculations at their current level unaided and within the allotted time of five minutes. If all of the calculations are answered correctly twice in a row, the child moves up to the next level! I used this with year 1-6. Incredibly useful for children in year 3-4 as they need to do their MTC tests. Have fun! Mr S.

Reading is an essential skill that needs to be accomplished by everyone. Here is around 6 weeks of reading and questioning that will support the children in covering all of the VIPERS skills. The questions are aimed at KS2 children but it can be adapted.
