Frankenstein: Complete AQA GCSE Lesson Series (1818 and 1831 Texts)
Short summary
Twenty-six free, interactive lessons covering the whole novel: a full set for the original 1818 text and a full set for the revised 1831 text, each with a page-vs-screen lesson on the 1931 film.
Description
A complete, ready-to-teach scheme of work for Frankenstein on AQA GCSE English Literature Paper 1, Section B. The download is a four-page guide with a clickable link to every lesson.
AQA does not specify an edition, so the series is built twice: once for Mary Shelley’s original 1818 text and once for the revised 1831 text. Every quotation has been checked word for word against the edition it comes from, and the teacher notes point out where the two texts differ. A one-page guide helps you choose the right set for your class’s copy of the novel.
Each set contains:
12 sequenced lessons, from the stormy summer of 1816 at the Villa Diodati to Walton’s final letters
A side lesson, “Page vs Screen”, comparing the novel with the 1931 film (Igor, “It’s alive!” and other things that aren’t in the book)
In every lesson:
Interactive activities: polls, drag and drops, hotspots, open questions and student spinners
Built-in differentiation, with “Need a start?” support and “Want a challenge?” stretch
Extract-to-whole-novel exam practice, with model paragraphs
Context woven in (AO3), plus a focus on language and structure (AO2)
Full teacher notes on every slide
The lessons open in LessonUp. Teach them as they are, or copy them into your own library to adapt. The opening slide of each lesson uses a lightning animation, so a photosensitivity warning is included.
