Report Comment Bank — 500+ Editable Pupil Feedback Phrases, UK Primary
A bank of over 500 editable report card comments for UK primary school teachers, covering six subjects, three attainment levels, and three tones — positive, developmental, and SEND-friendly. Built to cut report-writing time significantly while keeping every comment specific enough to feel genuinely personal.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
540+ ready-to-use comments organised across six subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, PSHE, Art, and General Progress. Each subject is broken into three attainment levels — Exceeding expectations, Meeting expectations, Working towards — and each level offers three tones: a Positive comment celebrating strengths, a Developmental comment setting a clear next step, and a SEND-Friendly comment that emphasises effort and resilience rather than attainment alone.
Every comment uses [Name] as an editable placeholder, so a class set of reports can be personalised in one Find & Replace pass rather than one at a time.
FORMAT
The pack is a single Word .docx file, fully searchable and editable in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Apple Pages. A matching PDF version is included for quick reference or printing. An instruction sheet explains how to search the document efficiently and how to import it into Google Docs.
WHO IT’S FOR
Class teachers writing end-of-term or end-of-year reports across a full class. NQTs and ECTs who haven’t yet built a personal bank of report language. SENCos and teachers of pupils with additional needs who want SEND-appropriate phrasing that avoids deficit-focused language. Teachers covering a class for report season who need a fast, reliable starting point.
HOW TO USE THE COMMENT BANK
Open the .docx in Word or Google Docs. Press Ctrl+F and search by subject, attainment level, or tone keyword. Copy the comment that fits the pupil. Use Ctrl+H (Find & Replace) to swap [Name] for the pupil’s first name throughout the document in one step. Add one specific detail — a project, an achievement, a moment from the term — to make the comment feel individually written. For a more personal result, combine a sentence from one comment with a sentence from another.
A NOTE ON TONE
The SEND-Friendly comments are not a lesser version of the Positive comments — they’re written from a different premise, focused on effort, strategy use, and progress relative to a pupil’s own starting point rather than against a fixed attainment bar. Use them for any pupil where that framing is more accurate and more useful to the reader, not only where a formal SEND label exists.
