A series of lessons (I usually take 3...) a decision making activity for pupils where they will learn all key aspects of trench life from rats, to lice, to dangers from your own Generals. Pupils start with 3 lives, and lose and gain them depending on their choices. There are also actions to go with this lesson, where pupils can gain and lose lives (mid lesson I will often shout a reel of these!) Enjoy! :)

Included: Lesson, card sort of problems, "solution" task (pupils are given a set of solutions to William's problems that they can "buy" using 100 solution buying points, good numeracy link too!) What should the Allies have done with Germany following the end of World War One? Pupils to consider the impact the specific terms of the Treaty of Versailles had on the people of Germany - each term pupils to use planner cards to RAG rate the "fairness" of them.

Could you have done a better job than the Weimar leaders? Pupils are given a series of decisions the Weimar Leaders undertook, and they gain or lose survival points. Actions for the key themes are also included e.g. "All Hail the Kaiser!" to remind pupils of the key issues for the Republic. Great to introduce the topic, or to revise it nearer exam time!

Pupils make decisions as the Allies would have leading to WW2 e.g. The Manchurian Crisis, Treaty of Versailles, League of Nations, Spanish Civil War... and have to try to succeed where the Allies failed. Each decision results in a percentage gained, the aim is to get the lowest percentage possible - thus avoiding the start of WW2.

A timeline outlining the key events of conflict and tension in the American West c1835 - 1890. Based on EDEXCEL spec, but would work with others. Great for revision, or to put in the front of exercise books at the start of the unit.

Why did Europe become governed by so many Dictators during the inter-war years? Who would the different groups of people vote for during the inter war years? Pupils have the opportunity to consider the differences between Nationalism, Democracy and Communism. Very interactive and pupil led.
