A series of resources to use at the start of students’ French learning journey. Resources include a starter/ice breaker activity in which you can demonstrate lots of French words which students will be able to recognise, regardless of whether they have ever doe any French before or not. The second PowerPoint introduces basic phrases (greetings, giving your name & saying how you are) to enable students to quickly build to understanding and conducting a simple conversation in French.

These resources are designed to practise key question words in French, to help prepare students for coping with understanding the questions being asked by the teacher in both the read-aloud and picture tasks and to practise the questions which the students need to ask in the role-play. I have taken these from specimen papers published to date. These resources build up from word to sentence to text level and include key grammar points such as word order, use of ‘gern’, connectives, time expressions and key verbs in different tenses. The resources here have been designed to build students’ confidence in giving and justifying opinions as well as giving me the opportunity to recap and reinforce the key key structures above.
