A set of lessons and key resources for a high ability Year 8/9 group. These lessons focus on three texts: London by William Blake The City Planners by Margaret Atwood The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury The aim of the SOW is to push high attainers into critical thinking. It has a direct link to the Poetry and Prose component for Edexcel GCSE English Language Paper 2 Section A. Students learn high end terminology, how to write structure and refined essays and, most importantly, how to challenge their ideas on literature. This SOW consists of 22 PPTs, extracts from all three texts, annotations and a specific focus on assessment drafting. The planning reinforces all elements of a L5 analytical paragraph, step-by-step, with plenty of models and writing practice for the students. SOW should last around 7 weeks. Ideal for something new in a KS3 curriculum map.

Within this SOW I have covered all of the main scenes needed for the AQA English Literature GCSE. 1.1 1.2 1.4 1.5 1.7 2.1 2.2 2.5 3.4 4.1 5.1 5.3 5.5 5.8 We cover critical analysis of the themes/characters within Macbeth in the lessons. Lessons take on various formats to maintain engagement. Plenty of model paragraphs, how to write a G9 essay and essay exemplars to support them along the way. Resources also included to support critical reading of the play for the most able.

Here we look at an incredibly important scene in Macbeth - Act 2 Scene 3. Whilst used for comic relief, it is so much more than that and can support students in their arguments for hell being right there on stage.

Two extended booklets to promote Literacy in Year 7. Booklets start with word exploration, creativity through book Insta-posters/ book toks and work through comprehension skills. Attached with a Word Bank that students are expected to use alongside this project and in all cross-curricular lessons.
