Film Composers Toolkit - Horror Music

This resource is designed to run alongside a Film Music scheme of work. It highlights key musical features of Horror Soundtracks to aide composing in this style, using popular movie examples. I have used this with a year 9 boys Music Technology class as they compose music to fit a clip of Jack Sparrow’s first entrance in The Pirates of the Caribbean. They sequenced in their ideas to the video synced to a Logic Pro file. It could easily be adapted for use in a general music class in a standalone film soundtrack composition task.

Keyboard Labelling Sheet

Ideal for early KS3 students when learning the notes of the piano/keyboard. I have also used this with my lower ability, higher KS3 students to help remember where notes are when on keyboard performance tasks. I have used these in small assessment tasks as well as using them as prompts for various keyboard performance activities.

T-Shirt Design - PSHE/Tutor Time

This worksheet was designed for students to be able to express their interests and to share a little about their personalities. It works as a fantastic icebreaker, particularly for year 7 students. I also used this sheet with a particularly difficult year 8 music class. I was able to break down a few barriers to learning by learning a little more about the students, and they felt more comfortable in the class after sharing a little about themselves.

Logic Pro 9 - I Can... (Assessment Sheet)

A sheet I created to assess students ability on Logic Pro during a Dance Music composition activity. This was used with a year 8 class, but could easily be used with a KS4 class early on in a Music Tech qualification. The tasks are in order of difficulty and grouped together in Bronze/Silver/Gold levels (All/Most/Some). Useful to use these at various points of an activity writing the date in each box and seeing the progress as they learn new techniques.
