Give students the chance to decide how they would have reformed prisons in the 1800s. The lesson includes a price list of different possible reforms and a fill in sheet for students to complete. This can be done as a group task or individual, students must spend their ‘prison points’ wisely to decide how they would reform prisons in the 1800s. The task sheet is broken down to allow them to decide what their priorities are for their first and second years. Could follow up with a lesson of how prisons were actually reformed.

A powerpoint containing multiple choice quiz questions about the Making of America OCR GCSE topic. They are set out on a million pound drop type screen and the correct answer appears in green. I play this with my students using a piece of paper divided in 4 to represent the 4 drops and raffle tickets to represent the money. The team with the most raffle tickets at the end wins a prize (merits usually).
