This is an introduction, including proof, of Pythagoras. Including an worksheet/activity in which the students can discover the relationship, and then a fun activity that can prove the relationship for deeper understanding.

The first part of the lesson is to learn the parts of a circle, included is a printout that the students can fill in themselves to test their prior knowledge of circle parts. The PowerPoint goes on to show all the parts of a circle and allows the students time to correct misconceptions that may have been produced. The main part of the PowerPoint goes through circumference of a circle, with worked examples and questions (with answers) for the students.

I used this lesson within a cross curriculum day. The lesson looks to introduce proportion in a different way to that in a maths classroom. I taught the lesson in a Food Technology room and the students absolutely loved it! You will need to provide the ingredients for this lesson. Great experience, just be careful that it is quite sickly. I did different sized groups so that they had to work out the proportions differently. I have differentiated the method lists to suit the ability of those in the class.

As it is Roald Dahl week, we have been asked to produce worksheets with a Roald Dahl theme. This is an adaptation of the Dinky King worksheet to fit in with the theme.

I printed this as a booklet and it provides a good revision aid for students at the end of the topic or before an exam
