This is a unit of work that I planned for my Year 4 class for dividing 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers using a written method. We had covered mental methods leading into this unit which is reflected in Lesson 4's resources (selecting an appropriate method). A set of lessons to introduce the purpose of causal and contrasting conjunctions. This was to prepare them for a persuasive writing unit. I laminated the help cards to support them throughout the unit. I have also included the homework that we used to consolidate this learning. An 'engage' lesson on the USA that I used for my Year 4 class. I created information cards about 12 American cities, with maps to show where they were located. I then created passports for the pupils to go to each station around the playground and record the relevant information, which would feed into lesson 2 (resources attached).

As part of our Romans topic we compared the geography of Italy and England under the headings of cities, beaches, mountains, rivers, lakes and volcanoes. The children used the resources to find similarities and differences between the geography of the two countries.

A set of 7 persuasive texts used in a KS2 literacy unit on persuasive writing. I tweaked some of them to be included in guided reading too.

This was an introduction into how authors show a character's emotions through their use of verbs, rather than just telling the reader how the character feels. I used 4 emotions, and created 2 texts for each emotion. I allocated 1 emotion per table group and they had to agree on the emotion being shown not told, then convince me by mind mapping the evidence from the texts.

A script for our Year 4 assembly on the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, complete with song and lyrics. We performed this with 74 pupils and everybody had something to do or say.

A guided reading lesson on the threats to the Great Barrier Reef to support a persuasive writing literacy unit. The texts are differentiated 4 ways, with questions for the pupils to answer in full sentences into their books.

Part of our Year 4 topic 'Road Trip USA'. Pupils learnt about how Native Americans would have lived when John Smith arrived in Virginia and compared this to the way that the pupils live now. This led to an independent write pretending to be John Smith landing in the new world.

We used 'The Indian in the Cupboard' by Lynne Reid Banks as the basis of a story writing English Unit. The second week of the unit, we looked at how authors use speech punctuation [this was a recap for us], and apply last week's learning of show not tell to use appropriate speech verbs. We then used show not tell to extend the reporting clause to show what the character is doing as they are speaking.
