Michael Morpurgo Running Wild Differentiated Reading Comprehension Question Booklet

(1)
A set of reading comprehension questions for Michael Morpurgo’s Running Wild. There are 3-4 questions per level per chapter, with the three levels labelled as “Try It”, “Challenge” and “Master.” “Try It” questions are mostly literal while “Master” questions are a range of literal, inferential and evaluative and require a detailed written response. I have used these questions in two different ways: Print as a booklet and share one between two. Print from page 2 onwards, chop each page and give pupils a set of questions each to be stuck in jotters. Generally, I allow pupils to choose which level of question they feel is most appropriate for them (of course some need a bit of support with this) then ask them to label or highlight to show which questions they answered. Allowing them to choose encourages pupils to reflect on their own learning. Running Wild works really well as a whole class novel, particularly when teaching a rainforest themed topics. The noel deals with issues including death of a parent, natural disasters, deforestation and poaching, and pupils have always become very engaged with the story - even some of my most reluctant readers! Running Wild has been recorded as an audiobook and is available on Audible. My Learning Resource Services also had a copy on disc. Running Wild Scheme of Work

(0)
A scheme of work for Michael Morpurgo’s Running Wild. There is a range of whole class, group and individual tasks. Some are verbal, some could be completed on whiteboards or in jotters and a couple require ICT. I have included two files with cards for tasks relating to chapters 1 and 5 - the information is mixed up so that you can decide to just print them and have pupils cut and stick or annotate them. This scheme of work has been designed to encourage discussion and deeper engagement with a novel and has been used with a Primary 6 class with a very wide range of abilities. Counting to 100 - Cards and Powerpoint

(0)
A simple automated powerpoint with 100 slides featuring 1-100 dots and the corresponding number. The dots are grouped in rows of ten with each full row of ten coloured black and each new ‘one’ or ‘unit’ coloured grey. The corresponding number also shows the ‘tens’ number in black and the ‘one’ in grey. The Powerpoint is automated so that pupils you can press play and have pupils count along with the slides. Or you could print the PDF and have pupils order, compare, round the numbers shown on each card.

Number of the Day - Two Levels - Includes more, less, counting on, odd/even, expanded and written

Two sheets which I use daily to reinforce number sense. These offer pupils the opportunity to practise counting on, find one more/less and ten more/less, deciding whether a number is odd or even, partitioning to show the expanded form and showing the written form. These could be displayed on a Smartboard and discussed as a class but I have them in page protectors and have pupils complete them independently then check together. This allows me to quickly and easily differentiate the numbers the pupils are working with.

Daily Maths - Place Value and 4 Operations

(0)
A PowerPoint to consolidate place value and four operations work, including: written form, expanded form/partitioning, ordering, comparing, rounding, estimating, halving, doubling, odd/even and fact families. There are four boxes at the bottom which I use for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. I switch this up between mental questions (eg 2 digits divided by 1 or step sum) and written method. Left blank for you to add your own numbers. You could use this on the board for daily group consolidation. I print them for two pupils requiring challenge and write the numbers in each day to allow for differentiation and constant progression.
