A detailed revision document comparing Mrs. Dalloway and Wuthering Heights (Edexcel) for AS/A2 students. Focuses on key themes: Entrapment, Death, Power and Oppression, Madness. There are also sections on symbols, imagery, structure and context. A useful revision tool or a summative document after teaching the texts.

A Poetry terminology test for GCSE students. I used this as a starter activity with my top set Year 10 when starting the Unseen poetry unit or before beginning to study the AQA Poetry Anthology. A powerpoint of 11 questions with answers, focusing on terminology such as assonance, volta, extended metaphor, caesura etc.

A 12- slide powerpoint presentation on ‘Jekyll and Hyde’, written for a mock feedback session. Slides on the specific extract question about Mystery and Tension in the novella but it also covers all Assessment Objectives, with revision information about the novella as a whole. A detailed list of both AO2 Language points and AO3 Contextual features are included. PPt ends with slides about the PEA model, encouraging students to practise their own PEA.

An introductory lesson for Year 11 at the start of the new Autumn term. It covers expectations, work still to cover in Year 11 and then moves on to introduce ‘Macbeth’. Two Youtube clips (‘Why you should read Macbeth’ and ‘The Black Hole’ , some thematic questions to provoke initial thinking around central themes, before starting to look at Act 1 scene 1 of the play, with links to three very different Youtube clips of Act 1 Scene 1.

A detailed revision resource on the character of Dr. Jekyll, listing key points from every chapter he appears in. It is full of key quotations relating to him and has language points (AO2) and context features (AO3) highlighted in different colours.

Six slides of quotations from ‘An Inspector Calls’ to use as a starter or plenary exercise with either Y9 or Y10. Students need to complete the quotation in each case and answers are then available to show.

A powerpoint of Heathcliff quotations for AS/A2 English Literature students, focusing on the question: Is Heathclliff the devil incarnate? A useful starter activity which allows students to discuss the character of Heathcliff as well as examining Bronte’s use and patterns of language, before moving on to examine his character in greater depth.

Originally written as a feedback ppt for Y10 after their IED (Inform, Explain, Describe) exam task but have amended it slightly so it can be used with either Y10 or Y9 as either feedback ppt after a creative assignment or an introductory ppt before they undertake the task. 24 slides on openings/endings, use of precise detail, technical devices, sentence types and starts, accuracy, vocabulary and revision slides on the colon and semi-colon.

A powerpoint of debate topics linked to the themes of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, by way of introduction to the play. Good for group discussion in Year 9 or GCSE.
