Lesson Objectives are To know how to set up the sewing machine. To understand the different parts of the sewing machine and their uses. To be able to confidently use the different settings on the sewing machine to create a stitch sample. The powerpoint takes you through each objective with an opportunity for students to have a machine in front of them and practice, threading it up, moving the parts whilst learning what they do. Leading onto students creating a sample showing 3 different stitches on the machine. Worksheet supports lesson by asking questions about tasks and a self assessment of sample.

You could also adapt this project to a pattern you already have. The powerpoint contains detailed instructions on how to create the different parts of the dress, which includes, lining a bodice and gathering a skirt. The project also teaches students how to read patterns and the purpose of them in the design industry. There are worksheets available at the end of the project for evaluations and peer assessment.
