I developed this resource to complement one of the strategies covered by the Write Away Together scheme. It’s a colour-coded, A4 sheet which uses icons and examples of each sentence-opening strategy. Update (09/2021): Word version added, to allow font substitution and varied terminology, but you’ll need to download your own symbols, as the original version included symbols from a downloaded font which won’t automatically show up in the Word document (which is why it was “locked in” as a PDF originally.) The winning KS2 entry in the Warwickshire ICT Development Service's Online Safety Story Competition 2016, Act Your Age is an animated tale of one girl's discovery that playing around with online identity is a dangerous game with high stakes. Working collaboratively through each and every stage of plot and character development, storyboarding, editing and final voiceover work, four Year 6 authors from Paddox Primary in Rugby crafted a powerful tale about the dangers of social media. I use these cards to prompt emerging writers to consider what they or a character can see / hear / touch / taste / smell. Each strip is colour-coded. The Word and PDF documents fit three strips per A4 sheet.
