Writing a Scientific Method KS3

(4)
Power Point aimed at lower KS3 to learn how to write a Scientific Method for making a cup of tea. Recommend trying out some of the methods that the students come up with, making sure you are following it word for word and overacting any mistakes or issues to highlight them. It is important to discuss why each method you go through is good or bad and ask the students to tell you how it could be better. May even be a good idea to give them some more time to try to improve their method and attempt the cup of tea again.

Based around the AQA topic Ecosystems processes, students learn about threats the the environment and plan how the school and individuals can do our bit to help. Planned over 4 lessons, students work on groups of 3-4 and focus around 1 of 4 climate issues: Decreasing biodiversity Plastic Pollution Climate Change Deforestation The general plan is: Lesson 1: Students receive an information pack around their crisis and pick out key information that they want to focus on in their work. Lesson 2: Students produce a poster to display this information and inform the public. Students are also provide accurate real world data about their crisis and plot a graph to determine if this is improving or worsening. Lesson 3: Students receive another information pack about methods of combating the issue and compile key points they want to focus on. Lesson 4: Students come up with ideas as a school and individuals we can help these issues and produce resources to persuade other people to help. My students produced; leaflets, badges, letters to the head-teacher (which i duly passed on) etc. All worksheets, ppts., success criteria etc., data, info sheets Develops: creativity, data analysis, graph drawing, ethical considerations, critical thinking etc. If laptops are available students could research without the use of the information packs.
