Weekly Plan and resources based on Pie Corbett's How to Trap A Stone Giant

(1)
A week of English plans culminating in the children writing their own set of instructions. I wrote my own newspaper article to “hook” the children in. The local landmarks listed could easily be edited for your school’s local area. I have adapted Pie’s Stone Giant Instructions to use as a model text in Wednesday’s lesson. There is also a whole class guided read using another set of Giant trapping instructions that i adapted from elsewhere. Also included are the Powerpoints I used in the lessons. Includes one day with a Talk For Writing activity that the children really enjoyed. All you need to provide is a trail of stones for the children to follow in Tuesday’s lesson. I used for Y3 but great for Y4 too.

This is a 12 page PowerPoint that includes a paragraph plan and model paragraphs for creating a travel brochure page persuading the reader to visit Greece or a Greek Island. There is an ideas bank linked to each paragraph. We were studying Greece in geography and this lesson produced a high quality piece of theme work that linked to persuasive writing in English. I used with a Y5 class but would be suitable for Y4/5/6.

KS2 Pick 'n' Mix Homework Linked to Lancashire Scheme's Theme:Rock and Roll. (Stone Age/ Volcanoes)

This was written to link to the Lancashire Scheme theme of Rock and Roll but would be useful for any class learning about the Stone Age and Volcanoes. A pick ‘n’ mix homework sheet that allows the children to carry out project based learning activities at home. The children choose 4 activities in total (one from each coloured section) and can select the activities that appeal most to them. We sent this as homework for a whole half term and were blown away by some of the things the children created. Just edit the hand in date and add your teacher email at the bottom. Suitable for KS2 children.
