This is a hand drawn text map, to support a persuasive writing unit following Pie Corbett’s Talk 4 Writing style of teaching English. The text map goes with the Hawk Ridge Farm Park persuasive advert, written by Pie Corbett in his Talk 4 Writing Across the Curriculum book.

This is a boxed-up model template, suitable for teaching explanation texts as part of the Talk 4 Writing style of teaching English.

This supports the the explanation text ‘How a dishwasher works’ from the book ‘Until I Met Dudley’. This is suitable for children in year 3, 4 or 5 following the Talk 4 Writing style of teaching. The story map has been hand drawn and can be used to teach the children this text off by heart, as part of the Imitation phase.

A hand drawn story map for The Little Green Dinosaur talk 4 writing story. Suitable for KS1. Follows the Pie Corbett talk 4 writing approach to literacy.

A somewhat tweaked version of the talk 4 writing story, ‘The Little Green Dinosaur’. Has been changed to include strong adjectives. Pictures within the powerpoint are of life like dinosaurs and the adjectives used to describe each dinosaur are accurate. Suitable for all of KS1. It was very hard to find this text anywhere online so I created this to use as the main story to read to the class. We then overlearnt the story by reading it every day and then using a story map (sold separately) to learn all of the words.

This is a short lesson covering the skill of retrieval, using the book ‘The Iron Man’. It recaps what retrieval is and then gives the class the opportunity to practice and develop their retrieval skills, asking questions based on chapter 5 of The Iron Man, by Ted Hughes.

This notebook file supports children in creating their own Egyptian myth toolkit or success criteria. It is an entire lesson of work and uses the book Ancient Egypt: Tales of Gods and Pharaohs by Marcia Williams. It follows the Talking 4 Writing structure and is part of the imitation stage. The lesson is aimed at Year 4. This will help children, as part of a larger scheme of work, to create their own Egyptian myth.

This is a unit of work (4 art lessons) researching and recreating art in the style of Leonid Afremov. Pupils will research his previous works as an artist and will then learn techniques in order to recreate one of his famous pieces of work for themselves. Aimed at LKS2 but might also be suitable for Year 2. All of the lessons are in notebook format and can be followed without separate planning notes.
