Does surface area affect the rate of diffusion in a potato cube?

(0)
This is a lesson that I taught to my year 10 Biologists to help them understand the relationship between surface area and rate of diffusion. They we easily able to link the results to why cells are so small (when combined with surface area:volume ratio) and why the small intestine has villi. There is no mention of osmosis as whilst the experiment is clearly showing the movement of water I wanted my class to be thinking of diffusion of substances rather than just water.

Complete Topic Content for AQA Science

I have put together these sheets to help guide my year 11’s for their Science revision. Each sheet has the complete topic content for all 3 sciences including the required practicals for each subject. I use these by geting the pupils to red, amber, green every individual lesson (with the help of a text book) this allows them to clearly see the sections in each subject that they need to put most time and effort into. I’ve had really positive feedback from my year 11’s saying this has greatly helped them plan their revision.

COVID 19 Reflection Project

I saw this on facebook so lay absolutely no claim to any of it, but I thought it was a really powerful thing for kids of all ages to do, especially with the Easter Holidays approaching. It allows kids to put their thoughts and feelings about everything that is going on at the moment ,down on paper and will be fantastic for them to look after and bring out in years to come and share with their own families.
