Reflection Puzzle Using Horizontal & Lines

(20)
Use equations of horizontal lines Use equations of vertical lines Reflection practice fun creative picture draw challenge Created in order to try and make the practice of horizontal and vertical lines just a bit more interesting! For each puzzle students need to draw the required line and then reflect an element. All parts will create a picture. Took a while to create - but the reaction of the students was worth it! Solutions included in the file - you may want to create separate files for each picture when using with your own students.

Inspired by the Leeds Maths Gym materials these worksheets have 20 questions on a range of number topics. There is a guide to support the practicalities of printing sheets and the fact that the grades covered are not perfect (sorry|). Each workbook has an introductory information sheet with timings to aspire to and suggestions for how to use. Excel files: ten versions of 20 questions - so lots of practice. Useful for revision, everyday number practice, entry activities, homework, activity for absence, send home to students off school. Hopefully you will find it useful.

Activities that work best when students collaborate to solve the problems provided. Can be printed as cards or displayed on the whiteboard. Students need to be able to use Pythagoras' theorem and decide the steps necessary. The line segment cards extend to contexts that are used at AS.All contexts are mathematical. A resource to support pupil progress in writing equations and solving in the context of properties of shape. A teacher may choose to use individual questions as a timed activity, as cards distributed around a group for work at their own pace, photocopied onto A3 paper so a group of pupils can work collaboratively and then share their methods with the rest of the group. Pupils may also create their own problems to challenge each other. I have found that there is a positive response to the challenge and pupil understanding is more likely to be embedded through collaborative practice. It is also useful to consider extension questions that could be posed beyond the basic problem presented.

Trigonometry and Pythagoras’ Challenges

A set of cards/IWB presentation that may be used for timed questions for a whole class or as a group activity. It comprises of a mixture of Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometry in multi-step problems. These problems have deliberately been created with either integer or simple surd solutions so that the calculation does not overshadow the process. Further problems may be created by the students themselves. The mini sets of ‘triangle-towers’ are a simpler version of a pile-up of triangles that I found when searching for activities.

First two pages of pdf printed back to back – cut into cards. Distribute cards across your group – question asked is answered on the reverse of the card. A pupil uses their card to become an ‘expert’ on the question they then trade with another pupil – each sharing their expertise. This activity may be done in fixed groups or with pupils moving around the room – whichever is best for your pupils. The third page are further questions that maybe used to then test whether the skills have been learnt. The red font page are the solutions.
