Macbeth The Witches Writing a Narrative
This series of seven lessons focus on Macbeth Act 4 Scene 1 where the witches are making potions and creating spells.
The overall objective is to describe the scene creating the atmosphere and including dialogue.
Aimed specifically at Key Stage 2 Year 5 and 6.
Students gain an understanding into how to successfully create atmosphere through careful vocabulary choices and sentence structure. They also engage with Shakespeare’s play by exploring visual literacy and drama. Scaffold writing frames are also provided.
The lessons follows a clear and logical learning journey, involving progressively more challenging tasks in which students:
-Create a wordbank to support their writing;
-Complete warm up activities to consolidate various punctuation/grammar skills;
Read and explore a section of the witches’ spell and demonstrate their understanding of the vocabulary used by writing their own spell;
-Explore how dialogue is punctuated and incorporate it into their own writing;
-Write their own narrative based on Act 4 Scene 1
-Analyse and evaluate WAGOLLS and create/use success criteria to support their writing.
-Edit, proof-read and up-level their own writing.
