There are five week’s worth of activities using five different non-fiction extracts. The questions are all either Q1 or Q2 style tasks, ensuring that students are practicing the key skills required for those questions. My students, who are all aiming for Grade 4, found the tasks accessible and suitably challenging.

An exciting lunchtime or lesson activity to celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday on 13th September. You issue students with the first clue, they then have to find the answer hidden somewhere in your school. On the same page as the answer they will see clue number two.

Lord of the Flies Treasure Hunt using QR codes

This is a fun and interactive treasure hunt that was very popular with students (as they got to use their phones!) from a range of abilities. You need to stick the QR codes around your school and then issue students with the answer sheet which has the first clue. Once students find the answer for clue one they scan the code to get the clue for the second answer. The clues and answers are listed on a separate file. Good luck!

Blood Brothers Treasure Hunt with QR codes

A ‘fun’ (I quote my year 11s!) and interactive revision activity. You will need to print out the QR codes and stick them around your school, students are then given the treasure hunt sheet with the first clue. Once they find each answer the students need to scan the code with their mobile phone to gain the next clue. You will need to edit the answer sheet according to where you hide the clues. I also have treasure hunts for Lord of the Flies and Of Mice and Men. This was very popular with the students and Headteacher - an interactive way to learn and revise!

Blood Brothers Quote Race

This is a power point with a statement based on a character or theme on each slide. Put your students in teams and when each statement appears the teams have to race to find a suitable quotation that supports the statement. the team that finds a suitable quotation first wins. This makes them become more familiar with the text, it is a fun way of revising quotations and once a quote is found it can be discussed.
