This SOW takes students through Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Students are encouraged to read the novel alongside clips of the film in a multi-modal approach to studying the text. Through the PPT students are given a range of tasks such as designing their own characters and board games alongside literary analysis and writing. Designed for a Year 7 class but could easily be adapted for Y6 or Y8.

This SOW is designed to take students through the skills they need to compare poetry linked together through the theme of conflict. These lessons have been put together with a view to prepare students for their GCSEs (mainly the AQA English Literature Poetry Component) by improving their analysis skills, knowledge of poetic terms and comparison skills. The poems included are: Out of the Blue Manhunt Nettles Falling Leaves Dulce et Decorum est Suicide in the Trenches Futility
