Classroom Monitors / Classroom Helpers

(56)
Each slide shows the role of a classroom helper / monitor with space to put the name of an individual / pair of pupils. I uploaded a PDF file which will retain the fonts I used, and have also uploaded the original Powerpoint file so that you can change the slides to suit yourself / your classroom. There is also a Word file that contains blank pupil labels which fit onto the slides. My plan is to laminate the slides and the pupils’ names, display them on the wall and rotate the pupils accordingly. The superb border on the first slide was designed by Superkings

Improving / Extending Sentences

(21)
An interactive way of teaching children how to improve and extend a simple sentence. Students use language resources adverbs, adjectives, adding ing or ed verbs, subordinate clauses, describing when/where/why to improve and extend their writing. I’ve taken advantage of the excellent resources uploaded by fruitrach(extending sentences - fruitrach) and adapted them to use with the The Hat - a sorting program available from Harmony Hollow - see link in Instructions document. Hope you find this useful.

White Rose Yr6 small steps mapped to mixed age Yr5/6 small steps

(0)
I teach a mixed age Year 5/6 class. The White Rose scheme of learning for Year 5/6 takes the whole year to teach, meaning that Year 6 are faced with a SATs paper in May but haven’t been taught large parts of the maths curriculum. Not ideal. However, following the White Rose scheme of learning for Year 6 as a single age, means that the objectives are pretty much covered by the end of the spring term. I have therefore mapped the Year 6 single age objectives against the mixed age Year 5/6 objectives and, with a bit of jiggery pokery, have squashed them into the 146 teaching days before SATs week. It’s a bit of a rush, but it always is - the beauty of teaching upper KS2! There is plenty of time after SATs to enable Year 5 to catch up on anything they may have missed out on (or that has been a bit rushed meaning they haven’t quite grasped it).
