This 4 lesson Scheme of Work is designed for Key Stage 3 but could be used at any stage for pupils who do not have a basic understanding of the fight for gay rights in the twentieth century. Lesson 1 looks at the example of Alan Turing to see how gay people were treated in the early twentieth century. Lesson 2 looks at Stonewall and the birth of the Pride movement. Lesson 3 looks at the fight for homosexuality to be legalised. Lesson 4 looks at the fight for marriage equality. The lessons look at both the US and the UK, as well as looking at the worldwide picture in lesson 3.
