Are all your pupils staring out the window watching the snow fall? Are they complaining that their cousin who lives somewhere snowier didn’t have to go to school today? Bring their attention back to some Geography using this special Snow Day mystery. Explore the reasons why different parts of the UK are more or less likely to have a snow day. The original Powerpoint was developed for a school based in a town called Maldon. You will need to change the word ‘Maldon’ to the name of your town to make the lesson relevant to your pupils. You will also need atlases with maps of the UK. This lesson is aimed at KS3 students developing basic map skills and understanding of what affects our weather. However, it was designed to be kept in a bottom drawer ready to use with any class that gets distracted by the snow outside.

A 6 lesson scheme of work planned for Year 7 students using photographs from my own trip to the rainforest in Thailand as a more unusual case study. The scheme of work covers location, climate and adaptations of plants and animals to the rainforest. Lesson 4 was my particular favourite as we cleared all the chairs and tables to the sides of the classroom and (using the photographs in the presentation as inspiration) took a virtual field trip to the rainforest together. Lesson 5 and 6 are based on the Making Animals activity from the original Thinking Through Geography book by David Leat. A copy of this would be useful for these two lessons. You will also find a copy of the Geog.2 textbook useful.

A useful, slightly tongue-in-cheek classroom poster to promote studying Geography to students of all ages. If you wanted to take it further, you could use this poster to inspire your current GCSE or A-level students to create their own posters to share with younger year groups.
