The Spanish Armada - a play script

(0)
A fun play that a whole class can act out to re-tell the events of the 1588 Spanish Armada (Tudors/Explorers). Aimed at years 4 - 6, it can be used for a class assembly or as a 'consolidation' lesson. There is a play script with some speaking parts and others just joining in. The other file is 'signs' you can print out to make a map. You would need a reasonable space, such as the hall, to act it out. If pupils have a copy of the script, they can act it out without rehearsals. This was written for a year 5 class in a middle school. We managed to get through two performances (ie swapping parts) in one lesson. They loved it!! (especially the mock-fight)

Cave Man to Hastings: British history summary to 1066

(1)
For End of year 6 or start of year 7: to recap British history from the 'beginning' to 1066, prior to teaching the Norman Conquest. Using the power-point, timeline and summary sheet(s), the main eras can be summarised by the teacher/whole class learning. To take this further, pupils can then work in small groups to research and present a specific era, which they can peer/self assess (see sheets). You would need to provide resources for each group to do their research, such as the internet, library books, printed fact sheets or the GCP books. More structured support/guidance could be given to an SEN group. As well as providing an overview of British history, this helps student learn research, presentation and groupwork skills.
