I've tried to ensure that the students have a diluted taste of the new GCSE English Language requirements to study texts from 19th -21st centuries.

This is a two year strategy designed to promote Literacy across the curriculum in a special school. Staff, students and parents are all included in the strategy. I have endeavoured to raise the profile of literacy and embed the concept that every teacher, regardless of subject specialism, is a teacher of literacy.

Stand alone lesson to support understanding of root words as an aid to spelling, decoding and reading for meaning. Simple activities which increase in difficulty and challenge. Suitable for KS2 and KS3.

I have created these activities to enhance the Hodder Going for Gold scheme 'The Quest' which can be found in Book 1. This is a great scheme designed for Key Stage 3 students who are working below expectations for their age and who may be difficult to engage. The scheme is based upon a quest to save a friend who has been abducted and a crown which has been stolen. The students have to engage in a variety of writing activities, games and puzzles to battle their way through a deadly tunnel to an underground fortress, where their friend is being held. The text books are colourful and engaging. I have always found this to be successful with even the most reluctant of English students.

A power point activity based on The Deserted House by Mary Coleridge. The activity requires the students to think about how the poet has appealed to our senses to create images and atmosphere. Suitable for both Key stage 2 & 3
