A mental starter video for Y3 to use online during the school closure period.
The game works as a chain (or tennis rally!) where the answer from the previous operation needs to be memorised to use in the subsequent operation.
The rounds get progressively quicker and operations become harder.
Enjoy!
Here’s a video I used for Y3 during the COVID-19 closure - as a warm up to my problem solving.
This ‘chain’ based activity has three rounds, in order to help children to hold an answer in their head in preparation for multistep problems.
The rounds get progressively harder, so may be useful for a Y4+ audience too.
Have fun and enjoy - would be great to hear your feedback.
Mental starter for Y3 that I used during the COVID-19 closure.
It focuses on a range of operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication to support the children with their quick fire mental skills.
The rounds get progressively tricker, so may also be useful for a Y4-6 audience.
Hope you enjoy - would be great to get your feedback.
Here are the lists for Y3/4 of spelling rules and common exception words for practise each week in school over the course of the two years. Children very much enjoyed the ‘space’ theme!
There are regular recap weeks for trickier spellings.
The weeks alternate between rules and common exception words, however, as the document is a powerpoint, you can adapt the slide order for your the needs of your class - or add/remove words as you see fit for differentiation.
There are sticky labels on the final slide - these can be used to award children with the rules they are secure in to display on their book. Each spelling list was printed and placed into an exercise book each week.
Enjoy - please let me know your feedback!
An extract from a multiplication video used with Y3 whilst teaching from home.
Focus is on children applying strategies such as partitioning knowledge to multiply two digit numbers to a one digit number.
Multistep word problems requiring more than one operation.
A mental starter I created on video during school closure.
Number bonds to 100 , where the rounds get progressively harder.

A short excerpt from a video lesson, focus on multiplying a multiple of ten by a one digit number, using place value knowledge to do so mentally.
Part one focuses on one operation - multiplication.
Part two focuses on two steps to the problem, with other operations.
A short video used as a plenary during the COVID 19 closure with Y3/4.
Children have to identify the multiple that does not appear in the times table.
Would work just as well as an independent activity on a laptop or as a whole class starter/plenary.
