The priority for this scheme of work was a first exploration of An inspector Calls including reading the play in class It introduces characters, themes and key words (omniscient, patriarchy, capitalism, socialism, proxy etc) It also introduces methods (metaphors, pronouns, dramatic irony, motif, stage directions, dramatic devices) There are a variety of shorter and longer writing tasks and it could easily be adapted for different abilities. Some tasks are already differentiatated. There are 12 lessons - but it took my classes longer - about 18 lessons. Plus we did assessments.

This workbook starts by chunking chapters and looking at comprehension style questions - for example chapters 1-4 include 10 questions such as: How does Atwood use setting and contrast in the novels opening to show the shifts in society? List three details from these chapters that suggest Gilead is a dangerous place. How does Atwood use silence, rules, and restrictions to create an atmosphere of fear? For each group of chapters there is a longer ‘Agree or disagree’ statement The workbook has spaces for students to fill this in as homework or revision. There are then sections looking at key themes and genre and form. FInally there are some common themes linking Handmaids Tale and Frankenstein - including guiding questions. Such as: Resistance and control: How do Offred and the Creature attempt to reclaim identity or agency, and how successful are they? What barriers prevent rebellion in each text, and how do characters navigate or succumb to these obstacles? How do small acts of resistance comment on the possibility (or impossibility) of systemic change? This is a word document so you can edit

Scheme of work which consists of lessons around risks, bullying and getting support. Each lesson includes activities and worksheets which would last at least an hour. If reading the chapters in the lesson it would take even longer. You can obviously reduce the ppt or set more research/reading/slides for homework or independent study or revision.

Originally led as a Walking talking mock to the whole of year 11 in the hall as a model for how to answer the Literature question on A Christmas Carol but could be used as a normal lesson. Contains 12 slides including context, purgatory, marleys ghost and sin. Provides students with examples of A01 points and context to include in an essay on redemption in ACC culiminating in them answering a GCSE question. ] Also includes a blank and completed planning sheet - this could be used as a homework or flipped learning task or completed in the lesson. The work my class produced after this was a considerably better, more relevant and structured essay and they are using a similar structure in planning future essays independently.

These were used for study skills events with students and parents. Sharing tips for revision and then providing students with a bank of resources (eg blank calendars, habit trackers, knowledge organisers) that they could go away and use at home. For our event we also asked subjects to provide past papers, knowledge organisers and revision booklets which could be handed to parents/students to revise at home.
