This mildly spooky ghost story forms an excellent basis for a year 6 reading comprehension which is also suitable for KS3. The powerpoint with superlarge writing is ideal for using for the whole class to read aloud together or for displaying while you read it to them. There is also a PDF for printing out so that children can read and answer the questions individually. The questions are on a par with the reading SATs year 6 questions and there are additional questions on vocabulary and word use. There is a suggested writing activity at the end. Ideal for a Halloween themed literacy lesson or for any time when the children are studying and writing fiction.

Perimeter complete Lesson FS1/FS2 powerpoint and workbook U4a

This is a complete unit of work to teach perimeter. The PowerPoint and workbook are created from past exam questions. I have broken the exam questions down so that students try a one step problem first and then steps are added until the full exam question is undertaken. Before they try the exam questions, they have a go at skills check questions which test all the skills required to answer the question. This is part of a complete FS1 and FS2 set of powerpoints and workbooks that I have created for my students. The powerpoints are numbered because I build on previously learned skills. This powerpoint can be used with on-line students or for whole class teaching. The workbook can be used for in person teaching along side the powe point. I have found that students learning the functional skills curriculum struggle to read the long question so this workbook and power point aim to break the process down so that students can improve their reading and information gathering skills and learn how to tackle the long worded questions.

This is unit 4 of my workbook and powerpoint series for Edexcel Functional Skills Maths level 2. The powerpoint and workbook have the same questions so that they can be worked on individually or as a whole class. The questions are all based on the longer questions in past exam papers. I have added in shorter questions which practise the skills required to tackle the long questions and I have added in similar questions which build step by step so that students can get a feel for how to approach the long question and get an idea of what to do first. The questions cover wages calcs including percentage extra for overtime and fractional overtime eg: time and a half. Commission is covered in my percentages unit but there is a question on commission included to remind students that wages may also include commission.

Percentages FS2 complete Lesson/unit. Workbook and powerpoint U2

(0)
Percentages workbook in PDF and Powerpoint format for individual, whole class or on line teaching. This is a full Functional skills level 2 module on percentages. I always find that the most difficult thing for my students, is to tackle the long form questions which throw so much information out in one chunk. With all my Functional Skills resources, I try and incorporate multi-step questions right from the start, to give my learners maximum practice time to acquire the skills they’ll need for the exam. I break some of the questions down into more manageable steps before letting them loose on full blown questions. So that is what I have here in PowerPoint and PDF format. This is a 35 page/slide unit that covers everything they will need for questions involving percentages Before each long question, there is a series of short questions which introduce all the skills that will need to be applied to the long question. For instance, there are some questions in the percentages unit, which require a knowledge of fractions or column multiplication. I have included questions on these skills so that, if necessary, students can practise these areas before tackling the long question. It is may aim to ‘mix’ things up a little so that skills are revisited many times in different contexts - as applying skills in different contexts is another skill my students tend to struggle with. I hope you find these helpful. I have numbered the units I use with Functional Skills because the lower numbers have fewer required prior skills so if you follow them in order, the skills build over time. But if you just need some percentage work that’s fine - they work fine out of order. The Skills check at the beginning can be augmented as required with further questions that teach and test each skill. Skills covered: Percentage of amount calculator and non-calculator Percentage increase and decrease Fractions as percentages One number as a percentage of another Commission on sales Discounts and best buys Reading tables equivalent fractions and percentages estimating to check answers

They work on whiteboards, tablets, and phones so can be read in guided reading as a whole class then emailed home for reading with parents on a phone or tablet. Each book introduces 4 new sounds - one per chapter The whole class can read the book together from the whiteboard, saying the sounds they know and blending where the text indicates, (please see the video for a demonstration of how this works) The books are well written and introduce extended vocabulary (listed at the end of each book) and use varied and complex sentences that are not usually accessible for young readers reading alone. Each day a chapter of the book is read and a new sound introduced. On Fridays or day 5, the four new sounds learned during the week are consolidated. Read as a group on in class on the whiteboard then mail it home for reading at home on a phone or tablet The PDF format with screen size pages ideal for use on the whiteboard or tablet but can also be printed out. Maths The four operations in context add subtract multiply divide

This set of worksheets shows how each mathematical operation is used a cross a wide range of real life and mathematical circumstances. For instance, addition is used to find perimeter, or totals of money, or to combine fractions. Multiplication is used for area and scale. The PDF can be printed used as a book, seperate sheets or as a set of work cards that can be used in the classroom as fillers when children have finished a piece of work. The cards apply the four operations to all the areas of mathematics covered in KS1 and lower KS2. Children practice the four operations in the context of: money, fractions, handling data, ratio, map reading/co-ordinates, shape, time, algebra and word problems. I print off all the cards and put them in a box so children take a card if they have finished their work or we have a set time when the children work on the cards independently. The cards can also be purchased as the book ‘Mentor Me Maths’ available on Amazon I tend to ask them to work on one topic -so do all the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in the fraction set but they could be used for practising one particular operation or randomly.
